The carnival went up today in the parking lot behind the church today. I can see the pulsing lights and hear the music from where I huddle over the heating grate outside the subway station. Every day I watch people come and go, but mostly they go. A few leaves from the trees in Ashford Park rustle around me and spin in circles in the street. Tonight is magical, the cold is not yet the miserable bone deep cold of winter. I can almost forget that soon they will be taking it all away. my world will return to a din of horns and angry voices and a blur of legs.
