about this story

On one Saturday afternoon I was strolling through the park when I came across a long row of Apricot blooms. They were absolutely beautiful. The buds were falling all over around the trees. I walked straight down the row of trees through a hidden path i discovered out of the corner of my eye. It led me to this stunning beach that was totally empty of anyone. I walked to the water’s edge and watched as the waves came crashing in. I couldn’t help but think about Lacy, my best friend, and how much she would’ve loved standing here watching this with me right now. But ever since she died, nothing seemed to be the same. As I stood on the beach with the waves crashing at my feet my memory wandered back to the incident. It was late January and we were having a good old time playing outside in the snow. We were laughing and running across the road when all of a sudden a car came speeding by out of nowhere and didn’t slow down. We heard it behind us and just as we turned around Lacy pushed me out of the way and was crushed by the car. I ran over to her and started screaming... I came back to reality. It was such a nice night out and thinking about her made me want to go back to our favorite hangout spot, our fort. When we were like 10 years old we made this fort and hung these awesome blue and green lights from the tree above it, and every night we would go hang out there and just lay on our backs and stare at the lights and talk for hours. It was the best. While I was on my way to the fort I saw a random toy dinosaur in the middle of the road and I smiled, because I knew that Lacy’s favorite animal had always been a dinosaur.
