about this story

Today I had to let go of my graduation cap for a something more durable. The search, and landing the job, wasn't going to be easy. Starting out, I knew I might be in the trenches and not everything would be all shiny and just the way I had planned. "You might get crushed no matter how much you armor yourself," they told me. I do have a tough skin, and I felt like I could take whatever was given to me. As the years went by, my knowledge, my skill set, my outlook, became weathered and rusted. But beneath those layers still beats a heart of hope with red blood pumping through my veins. Now it's time to just polish up and get going.
