about this story

its an afternoon after it storms all night, into the early morning. the thunder woke me up at 4am and i couldn't go back to sleep, so when 8 rolled around i decided to go on with the day instead of going back to sleep. my apartment is a large square brick building. kinda old, and lots of spiders, but they're friendly and life is cozy there. there's a cat outside the door, all black and too fluffy and sweet not to admire. i start my absentminded journey and the cat follows me around the corner to a mini-mart. there are two little boys on the curb, crouched down right at the side of the building reading the vandalism, or "street art". the boys are giggling and laughing at the naughty things they read off the wall loudly, no one is there to tell them what not to do. i smile at the boys, and the cat takes interest in them. i continue down the street alone, the day is becoming more gorgeous as i go on. like the sky is trying to apologize for crying and screaming all night by becoming a cool, clear golden morning. down the street there is a flower cart with a rainbow of roses. business is slow, and the sunlight is shining directly on the pink roses, so i buy half a dozen, and give a genuine smile and "have a good day". i turn around and pop into the mini-mart for some pastries for breakfast. when i leave i pass the boys with their mother give them a smile and hand her a couple roses, she looks worn, and the smile that grows on her face showcases her beauty. when i get home i put the roses in a vase, eat breakfast and look outside. the overwhelming peaceful feeling hugs me, and i thank myself for starting my morning with a post storm walk.
