about this story

Stone is the shaky foundation on which our humanity has come to rely. We depend on the old brick schoolhouse to teach our children to be wise and good. Then we erect monuments on stone bases honoring those who were neither wise nor good. And because of those we glorified and raised up on those monuments, we put into the ground those unjustly slaughtered and mark their beginning and end with a slab of rock. Then, some of us walk past the stone pillars into our churches seeking forgiveness while others walk past the stone pillars of our courthouses seeking justice. The same stones we have used to build the places where wee teach, honor, worship, and govern are used to build walls between us. It's time to invest in a sledgehammer that will save us from ourselves.
