Five Card Story: Manipulations

"Manipulation", he called it. It looked impressive, sure, but by and large we had thought of it as mere hocus pocus. You'll say we were short sighted, and I will own that we believed the checkered shirt had not screamed "powerful magician" at all.
When the evening news brought in pictures of "manipulated" landmarks - torn posts, statues, twisted trees or bridges - we realized how foolish we had all been.
A posse was gathered and the guy in the checkered shirt promptly put out of business.
Such had been his powers that the coroner ordered an autopsy of the man, to see if the doctors could find any rational clue as to such mental might. When they sawed his skull in two, an angry - hissing - white cloud escaped, burning all present with acute frost before crawling into the drain.
That night, the galaxies started to twist and snap.
