Every year, she circles the same date on the calendar. December 15th. This year there's snow. She wears the same winter jacket, he's long outgrown his.
They walk together in the streets like strangers, arms crossed through comfortable pauses, until they come to the green house on the corner. It's been years since any of their friends have lived there, but the new roommates still kindly loan out the yard where the couch from the front room now sits.
By the glare of the nearby traffic lights they share a bottle of cheap red and pass back and forth some practiced phrases. And when ready, wander to the theatre.
The owner of the theatre lets them bring their own movie that night. Always something barely worth watching and probably starring Mandy Moore. And in the dark they remember what it had felt like when their hands first touched.
