about this story

One fine summer morning, the Martin kids decided to try Grandpa's tricky trail alone. The creek was a place they'd been told to treat with respect (and a little bit of healthy fear) so they tread carefully across on the biggest stones. Coming to the first stand of tall cedars, they searched for Grandpa's special mark to find which way to go next. They found it on a mossy fallen log (he must've known they'd try it alone, and re-laid the trail at eye level for 10 year olds). They found an old geocache under a patch of earth and stones that had been placed there last summer, making the trail that much more familiar. The hike ended abruptly as little brother Alex caught up to them easily, letting them know he'd found the stash of freezies for snack. Time to head home.
