about this story

Sam had not listened to his mother and ran off ahead, to his favorite spot at the zoo, where the gorillas and monkeys played. He was especially interested in the baby gorilla, who looked bored as his mother coddled him and picked at his fur. Sam decided that the baby gorilla was a lot like him - in need of a little adventure. So, when no one was looking, he crept over the barrier, picked up the baby gorilla and ran! He ran through the zoo gates and across the grass, over to a grove of maple trees. Sam and the baby gorilla had a wonderful time, climbing and playing, until Sam stepped back and tripped over a metal plate with the word, "amends"on it. He had just learned about the meaning of the word, the idea of making up for things done wrong. He thought about not listening to his mother and taking the baby gorilla away from the zoo and decided that he must go back. He carried the baby back to the zoo and gave him to the mother gorilla, who was so happy to have her baby home safe. The boy waved goodbye to them both, promising to visit again soon. Sam found his mother, who hugged and scolded him. He told her he was sorry for not listening and promised to never run off again. As they left the zoo, Sam passed the wise old turtle, who had lived at the zoo for many years. The turtle smiled at Sam and said - well, actually it didn't say anything, because turtles don't talk, but Sam was pretty sure if she could talk, she would say, "well done, grasshopper."
