I live in a small town, with a nice beach. I have a small cottage in a clearing. Some days, I like to go hiking. Today was supposed to be just a typical hiking day, but it wasn't one for long.
I started to run. Sweat poured down my cheeks. My heart thumped in my chest. I liked running, it felt good after. I was used to going miles a a time, but today I wasn't feeling so good. Ten minutes in, and I was already crouched down, wheezing. It was hard today. I decided just to go at a brisk walk. I was almost at the point where I usually turn around and head home, when I heard something. It wasn't human, the sound. It was something else. Scared, I frantically started running. My breaths were short and I didn't get enough air. I collapsed.
When I woke up I had no idea where I was. This wasn't where I fell. I had moved during my slumber. Or something had moved me. I got up and looked around. Off in the distance was a rock staircase climbing up a hill. It looked like it hadn't been touched in years. Slowly, I meandered over. I put my foot down on the first step and looked up. I sighed and started walking.
As I neared the top of the staircase, I heard the noise again. I stopped moving, my body was still. This time it was louder. I was getting close. At the top of the staircase was a pedestal. It was made out of something I had never seen before. On the top was a small box. I opened it, carefully. Inside was a small sphere made out of the same material as the pedestal. I took it and kept walking. At the edge of the hill, where it was supposed to go down again, there was a sheer drop. It went at least 50 feet down into black nothingness. I found a bunch of cuts in the wall. Slowly, I worked my way down, my hands and toes squished into the slits.
At the bottom was a huge cavern. I looked around. Then I saw the skull. It was huge, possibly 30 feet tall, carved into the rock. Right at shoulder height there was a circular indentation that looked out of place. I remembered the sphere. I took it out of my pocked and stuck it in the hole. Instantly, lights turned on, and a portion of the floor far away from me started to rise. It stopped moving, and I headed over. Scrawled in the stone was a message, very hard to read. I squinted, trying to make out what it said.
"You have to run. He is coming for you." I read it and froze. I turned around. Nothing. I looked all around me. Still Nothing. I walked around the massive cave until I found something. A narrow staircase, dug out of the rock. I started to climb. At the top, there was forest again. I recognized this part. I headed home. When I got there I almost fell over.
Standing right at my front door, was something. It was too short to be human. I turned to my car. Thankfully the keys were still inside. I opened the door, and got in the driver's seat. I slammed my foot on the gas pedal, and took off. I was never coming back.
