One hot, steamy afternoon, I decided to celebrate the freedom of summer. I put on my cool running clothes and started making celebration brownies. They were a sign of being on vacation - sweet treats and sweet memories of baking with my grandmother when we would visit her over summer vacation. While the brownies sat cooling on the oven, I grabbed my shades, did up my laces, and headed out for a run in the mountains. The dry dust filled my senses as the heat made the asphalt ahead appear blurred and boundless. I settled into a nice pace, ready to run and to reflect. Up ahead, I saw that the road diverged and one lane was about to end. The sign suggested I merge left but I decided to choose the path less taken and headed off on the dirt trail for a new adventure, knowing my delicious brownies would be waiting at home. A reward for taking a risk and stepping out of bounds on a hot summer day, when all boundaries became flexible and watching the clock no longer mattered.
