about this story

It is mid November, and the last of the Autumn leaves crunch beneath my feet, spreading little color in this dismal world in which I live in. I head over to the unfortunate area of Sector 23 nicknamed by the locals as the Hole, due to the entrance to our domestic-units, which resemble huge, gaping holes. It is dawn, and the faint rays of early-morning light start creeping up the sky, casting harsh shadows on the electric fence surrounding our sector, the guards positioned inside and out the fence are being roused for their daily duty, which mainly involves taunting us for our misfortunes. I quickly scale the small hill, which is part of the entrance to my domestic-unit, and carefully open the rusty, metal door (“rebels” have painted the PANIC logo onto our door). My mother, attempted to grow several beds of wildflowers outside the small building we all share, but when she made an appeal for her small bed of flowers to the Council, they denied her appeal, claiming that it would affect the balance of belongings within our Sector. As it is all citizens within Sector 23 are nearly identical, we have the same clothes, hairstyle, height and only the people form the Hole are terribly thin, this is the life within our society.
