I awoke to the sound of footprints crunching down on the snow. I tiptoed out bed, grabbed my cell phone, and peeked out of the window. What I saw next was a tall man wearing a black leather jacket disappear into a long, dark corridor. I ran back into my room, hid under the blankets and began to think. The next few hours seemed to be a blur, as I wondered why the man had been in my yard. Was he trying to steal something? Did he want to talk to someone in my family? I finally fell back asleep and in the blink of an eye the sun was shining down on me. It was time to get up and get ready for school; even though I hardly got any sleep the brightness of the day reassured me that I was once again safe.
