The Buddhas of Bamiyan presided over the Silk Road for two thousand years watching the people come and go. Traders and thieves. Families and tourists. And invisible women in their burqas. And men. The men met and ate food steeped with Afghan heritage as old as the Buddhas. Their passions fueled by coffee and talk of revolution. On the other side of the world a family turns on the news and cries for what's been lost and worries about what will come next. In the mountains of the Hindu Kush, a greater evil lies waiting.
