While waitiing for a friend to arrive at a restaurant for dinner, I noticed a pastry chef carefully arranging elegant pastries in anticipation of evening diners. Somehow there was a familiarity about his face, his mannerisms, and the way he moved. As he worked, he would occasionaly stop, grab a few pistachios to munch on, then continue his work. Somewhere in my foggy past, I remember someone doing the same thing and eating the same brand--Sunkist! My curoisty got the best of me. I stuck around until his shift finished then followed him out into the crowded street, trying to keep several paces behind. Suddenly he stopped and turned. "What do you want?" he whispered in a husky voice. I stood there speechless not knowing what to say. As if on cue, he pulled out his wallet and showed me a photo. A snippet of a beach, blue ocean in the background, a small pond with beach grass in the forground. I gasped! "Where did you get that? I--I have the same photo on my dresser at home." He smiled. "We were there together, don't you remember?" I gasped. An ocean of memories washed over me as I recalled that long-ago magical day. He slipped his wallet back into his pocket and gave me a quick hug. Then he disappeared back into the crowd. I stumbled into a local fast food joint and ordered a cheap coffee. The place was crowded with families grabbing a quick meal. But I didn't notice. I was back at the beach, remembering.
