about this story
A homeless man was walking around a forest in England, when he came across a hidden staircase. Being curious, he of course walked up the steps. After walking the steps he found a little boy who knew how to read, the little boy invited the homeless man to come to his country school with him, and he accepts with joy. after realizing just how far behind he was from the rest of the school, he decides to kidnap the little boy and force him to help him start the school on fire. After the boy lights the fire the homeless man throws the lit book into the school and watches it burn to the ground. He takes the kid with him and they run away to Egypt after robbing a bank where he eventually is caught and forced to be a servant for the rest of his life.
