about this story

The fall was here and it came with the angel of death. He was out one day on a routine hunt. He'd always joke with me before he left saying "Let's hope I catch a deer before I catch a bullet." I guess he shouldn't have tempted fate.
These church halls we used to walk make me want to cry out but I know he won't come. He's gone. I walk the desolate streets that used to bring me joy and all I feel is misery. I am grateful to all the people who came to his funeral. It isn't comforting but at least I know he touched the lives of others.
In an eerie silence we left the church and carried him over the hill to the open grave. The beauty of the sunset was just an annoyance. There was a bitter taste in my mouth as we lowered him into the dirt. In life, he told me to be strong but at that moment I shed a tear and it fell onto his casket, signaling my final goodbye.
