At a conference long, long ago in a Canadian city far, far away, this guy gave a presentation on some nonsense he made up. But being trained in the field of geology, he had learned that the more you used your hands and arms in a hand waving motion, the more people tended to believe you.
Later than noght at the bar they were still talking about hat wild hand raising motion and decided it was worth copying, so they began the cunning planning of meme plotting. Pretty soon people in Australia were doing it, and it would have spread to the animal world had they been afforded the proper limbs.
And thus it has become an international gesture of intelligence-ness, so those in the know are prepared at any time to talk with wild hand motion, especially about topics they are most passionate about.
