about this story

It was the summer of 1995 and all was looking good. In less than a week school would be over with and my summer would begin, but little did I know that this would be a summer I would never forget.
I came home from school on the final day to find my parents sitting in the living room with worried looks on their faces. I asked what was wrong and they told me to sit down and they would explain it to me. They told me my uncle John was really sick and they didn't know if he was going to make it. When I heard this it was like a dark cloud had come over me and what I thought was going to be a great summer suddenly wasn't.
After a couple of weeks of being in the hospital, uncle John passed away. He was like a second father to me and I didn't know what to do with myself. I sat in my room all the time and only came out to eat. My friends would call and ask for me to come over, but I never felt like playing. My parents began to worry about me so they decided they were going to get me something to take my mind off things. I was sitting in my room as I always dod when I heard my parents call for me. I walked downstairs and saw, sitting in my mother's lap, a puppy. It was a beagle puppy with long ears and a long tail. I knew immediately that me and this puppy would be best friends and we would do everything together, and we did.
As the weeks went by the puppy, which I named Roscoe, grew bigger and bigger. We walked through the woods together and went swimming in the creek. Everyday we went to visit my uncle John's grave, but Roscoe helped me realize that even though he was gone and I missed him, I need to remember the good times we had and how he will always be with me. Roscoe is the best friend a boy could ever ask for and I will always remember the summer I met my best friend.
