The drive this morning felt free. It seemed like everyone had already evacuated the city after last night's bomb scare.
About last night...
I was thrilled to be finally in the festive mood.My family and I had been working tirelessly to hang the last set of fairy lights on our two-storey town house.
At 7 pm many people gathered to admire the luminous rainbow that spread across the entire neighborhood.
Crowds stood in astonishment and awe while viewing the fairy lights around them.
Suddenly the silence was broken by the sound of an explosion. Onlookers began running in desperation towards their vehicles.
I felt numb as I turned to see my neighbor's home burning bright with flames.
Before I could move, I felt my father's arm clutching me, motioning me forward. And as we made our way towards the car I spied a shadowy figure. My heart sank as we drove away.
Weeks later, it was reported that the arsonist had planted a bomb after a road rage incident with our neighbors.
All that remains now is a sign of what once was.
