about this story

“This, to me, is a telling symptom of our technologic environment of language: to make sense of something, we turn away from it and seek something else” (Coffeen 6).

“Exemplary reading rests on the assumption of assumption, that there are certain things we can just count on” (Coffeen 10).

“Why do we reach for something else, something we imagine as bigger and more prestigious, more controlling - an expert, genre, ideology, history - to make sense of this thing we have right here in front of us?” (Coffeen 11)

“I’m trying to suggest that there are other ways of making sense, ways that are beautiful, astounding, exhilarating, life-affirming, that maintain and even celebrate the wildness of life!” (Coffeen 16).
