Under a corrupt government, the african rebels attack the citizens in their villages which forces them to flee for their lives and hide in the woods. There are many deaths as a cause of these attacks. Ishmael is separated from his family and friends, and lives on his own while trying to discover other people. While the government tries to solve the issue, the attacks become worse and more brutal. Ishmael finds boys near his age that are trying to survive like he is. The boys are chased out of villages and find their way to the sea.
