about this story

The story opens with Liesel, the main character's, brother dying. So the first picture represents the cemetery and the solemn environment. Secondly, the text represents the beginning of the Book Thief's career of stealing books. Then the third picture represents the happy, pure environment of Liesel learning to read with her dad. Next, the picture of the kids playing on a desolate street represents the fun the kids of Himmel Street have playing soccer amidst all the negatives in their lives. Finally, the picture of the dark door represents the door Liesel had to approach to deliver laundry and fearing that the lady behind the door would out her for her thievery. Instead, the door opens the wide world of reading to Liesel.
