The first picture is there because the kids look like they are fenced into where they can go to the other side, and in the book, they are not supposed to leave their ¨compound¨.
The second picture is there because, in the book, she climbs her tree. The third one is there because the gears work a certain way and in the book, they have to do things a certain way.the fourth picture represents where they live; the desert. the last picture represents the church.
