Five Card Story: Childhood's Twilight

The Duck Elders called a meeting. They had been putting it off for a while (it was the Christmas season, after all), but they knew it was time. The Band of Dinosaurs had the most arduous journey, traveling across time, difficult terrain, and with the constant threat of meteors, and catastrophic, baseball-drowning floods. Despite their challenges (short arms and thin rope among them), they knew they needed to be there. They joined the other toys for the solemn event, and a quorum was called.
Billy's parents went all out with Christmas decorations this year. They probably knew it was coming, and hoped their talk-of-the-neighborhood display was enough to keep Billy's beliefs in the season afloat, at least one more year. But, Earlier in the week, though, Billy made the announcement over family dinner. "I know Santa isn't real!"
The Elders, and the toy community, gathered. Symbols of Billy's youth. They gathered to mourn the sunset of innocence, and prepare to be abandoned, and as the sun rises with Billy's new life.
