漁祭的尾聲，今天的工作仍然是把過剩的漁獲醃漬，再吊起來，被魚鰭劃傷的傷口碰到鹽水癢癢的。
上午的工作完成後，老爸問我要不要去市集，這倒是新鮮，便一口答應了。上了岸，叫了台馬車，上次上岸是幾個月前的事情了，馬蹄踏在地面的聲音和震動仍然令我沈醉，回頭看著漸小的碼頭，心理卻有點不捨，這是去城裡上學前的最後一次漁祭了，一方面要離開生長的地方，一方面也知道供我上學對老爸老媽是很大的負擔。
抵達了市集，做工漂亮的瓷器吸引了我的目光，老爸則拉著我像在找什麼東西，最後買了一座硯台和幾付墨筆，是為了我去學校用的，老爸還說，最好墨水是從我們船上補撈的墨魚來的，上學前可以帶一大桶給我，我們都笑了。
離開市集前我撇到了旁邊的生物，碼頭邊也見不到的，我問老爸那是什麼，老爸說：「等你上學了，就什麼都懂了」，好，我心想，等我到了學校一定第一個查出那是什麼。
