about this story

Gilbert Ryle was born on Aug. 19, 1900, in Brighton, the child of a prosperous specialist. He was taught at Brighton College and afterward entered Queen's College, Oxford, where he took first distinctions in two subjects: old style respect balances and the school of theory, legislative issues, and financial matters. He was likewise commander of the Queen's College Boating Club.
