I don't roll in a convoy anymore. I'm alone on the road, alone with my thoughts. Sure sometimes I go the reunions, and the small-town celebrations. Hell I even pull out my uniform once in a while. Just to see if it still fits. It hangs around me now, like a burial shroud. But I'm still here. I stop in to see Chavez whenever I'm on my way through. He's still hustlin' still scheming his way to the big time. He talks big dreams, but he still has to drink himself to sleep. To escape the other dreams. The ones that don't quit. I have 'em too. That's why I drive all night. I stop in to see Saunders, too whenever I'm in the hills. He always talked about how he'd be lying next to his old man, and his old man, and his old man. Dying in a losing battle was a family tradition. I see a mushroom pushing through the grass. I wonder what lies ahead. I wonder how I'll get there.
