Five Card Story: The run

about this story
Setting – A man trying to cross the capital of a war-torn country so he can protect his family.
Rising action – As the man enters the capital city, he hears the distant drum roll of an artillery fight and the rattle of several firefights.
Climax – As the man nears the city center, along he only path he could take, he comes within eyesight of the capital building, which is the largest outpost for the invading army. As the man tries to sneak by, he suddenly hears a rifle being charged, the sound of what would almost certainly be his doom. Then, suddenly, an enormous firefight breaks out with the man smack-dab in the middle of it.
Falling action – As night falls, the man uses the dying daylight to escape the city center.
Resolution – As the man is on the highway out of the city the realization hits him, he did it! He made it out of the city and now has a clear run to his family.
