The case of Anna O is a critical moment in what shaped Sigmund Freud's philosophy. While taking care of her dying father, she experienced hallucinations and paralysis and was diagnosed with hysteria. She was treated by Freud's teacher. Talking about her experiences of traumatic events seemed to help a lot in her treatment and was the foundation in the development of mental health treatment. This served as the basis for the book "Studies on Hysteria" (1895) that is written by Freud and his teacher. For Freud, the source of hysteria is childhood abuse.
