about this story

We all have our dark days, but this time, it's getting even darker. With all the catastrophic occurence in the present time, mixed with our own misfortunes, 2020 has to be the darkest year I had lived in.

This pandemic took a great toll in my mental health. Everything I'm wishing, hoping and worked hard for in this year has gone to waste. I fell into a deep, cold pit of sadness and hopelessness in these initial months of lockdown. Each and everyday this fire that I had within me is dying. There's nothing I could do about it, I think.

That is until I realized that I can do something about it.

I went for the things that I once associated happiness with. Music, arts, literature - that's what I was able to hold on to. It took me a great time to get up from my pit and step up on the land again. But boy, it was all worth it, for I felt the earth beneath my toes, the sun rays hitting my face, the air filling in my lungs, the beautiful chirps of the bird, the scenic view that feels like I haven't seen for forever. I feel alive again.

In these trying times, music, arts and literature became my sanctuary. They brought the same surge of energy and tranquility I felt whenever I'm near the seashore. They made me fight for another day, and reminded me to remain hopeful, for the sun rises in the morning, and so does hope.
