Everyone has the right to own a real self and an ideal self. As Carl Rogers said, we all own both real and ideal selves. As seen in the picture, the self represents you which is we called the real self and the ideal self is what you think of you, base on the influence of others. The real self can be related to the forest, it is in you naturally, like the nature you need to appreciate yourself first rather than the ideal self because the real self is you, you don't need to fit into others to become what the society wants, I think Carl Rogers discover this when he was working with troubled children, they may have influenced his idea that both of us have the rights to own real and ideal self. The 4th picture represents you trying to fit into what others want for you which is not necessary. When Carl Rogers was young he abandon his pursuit of theology because of a student-led seminar on religion which caused him to question his faith. Now, this life scenario might be the reason about his theory, because Rogers believed that the formation of a healthy self-concept was an ongoing process shaped by a person's life experiences. People with a stable sense of self tend to have greater confidence and cope more effectively with life's challenges. It is okay to have an Ideal Self but it is also important to love your own real self.
