about this story

St. Augustine was in a Christian atmosphere since he was a kid because of his mother who is a devoted Christian. His mother who is St. Monica tried hard to teach him about Christianity but young Augustine was not interested at all. He was so proud and bad to the point that he can't understand the holy truth anymore. When he was a kid he stole fruits together with his friends. He stole not because he is poor but just to impress his friends. There were times that he can't sleep because of guilt. He realizes that he does bad things but at the same time, he enjoys doing it. When he was in his teenage years, he struggles with sexual desire. He had a child at a young age. His mother continually pray for his son that God will change him one day.
Until St. Augustine work in Milan as an oratory professor. His mother invited him to attend the preaching of bishop Ambrose and he accepted. After hearing the words of God from bishop Ambrose, St. Augustine felt restless and confused. He began to reflect himself. He realized that people who are uneducated go to God but him, the educated one isn't. So, he asked God for help. God told him to open the Bible. After reading God's word, he realize that only in God you will experience a rested heart. Through Faith in Jesus, your sins will be forgiven. St. Augustine finds hope to have a new life. Since that day, St. Augustine pursue studying God's word and become a bishop in Hippo which is now called Annaba, Algeria in North Africa.
