1st photo- Plato, (born 428/427 BCE, Athens, ancient Greekphilosopher, student of Socrates, and founder of the Academy, best known as the author of philosophical works of unparalleled influence.
2nd photo- Plato as a young man was a member of the circle around Socrates.
3rd photo- He began a lifelong relationship with the ruling family of Syracuse, who would later seek his advice on reforming thier city's politics.
4th photo- In establishing the Academy Plato moved beyond the precepts of Socrates, who never founded a school and questioned the very idea of a teacher's ability to impart knowledge.
5th photo- Aristotle arrived from northern Greece to join the Academy at age 17, studying and teaching there for the last 20 years of Plato's life.
