about this story

I placed the flowers down at the head of the grave and bowed my head, silent tears rolling down my face as I thought of the great man we had lost. Grandpa Eddie had always been kind of odd but he had been kind and caring. I could still remember the stories he told me when I was young. About great magical people who lived among us keeping us safe from the monsters that lurked everywhere. I still remembered his laughing blue eyes staring down at me and coaxing me from hiding under the table as I often did to avoid my parents. I sighed I would miss Grandpa Eddie and his stories a lot. I heard loud chanting from behind me and I turned to look, momentarily forgetting about my grief as I stared at the young child in black robes holding out a hand to me. HE hasn't offering it to me but just stood there chanting a few feet away pointing at me. Still frightened of the monsters from grandpa's stories I ran believing this to be a monster. I jumped into my car and turned the key in the ignition. As I drove off I saw a cat staring at me from the side walk. It was an odd mix of brown, black, and a blond gold color. It was the last thing I saw before I woke up in a net hanging above a fire.
