The zookeeper is caressing the animal, as the children sees this they learned that it’s not harmful, shouldn’t be afraid and not to run away from it specially when there’s an adult around it will be safe and sound like with your mom.

It's an example of Observational learning, the children observes how to take care of the animal and learns how to deal with it.
