about this story

At the water, I have always felt the greatest sense of calm and creativity. Maybe it's because I grew up on an island. Maybe it's because I loved to swim as a child. Maybe it's a combination of both. This feeling can not be quantified. Whether at the water or in the water, I find it's easy to enter a frame of mind where I can envision possibilities. Because I'm a singer/songwriter, these possibilities often involve words and music. It's difficult to get into this frame of mind during the normal 8-5 workweek. It always has been. For all of my adult life, I've been divided between two worlds--one that puts food on the table, and one that feeds my soul. When I can manage to balance both, I feel at peace. But when the inevitable stresses of the 8-5 make it hard to garner the energy to concentrate on the soul's nourishment, it can get dark. I can get dark. Yet I stay focused on getting back to that balance. Getting back to what feels natural. Getting back to the water which feeds my soul.
