about this story

"Do you want a kitten?" she asked, interrupting my Friday evening stroll from my office to my car. I asked, "what will you do if I do not take the kitten, can you bring him to the SPCA?" She said, "No, I will probably just put him back in the alley, and hope his mom finds him." "OMG, I will take the kitten!" She ran into her apartment to get me a box - it proved to be useless as the kitten hid under the passenger seat, crying as I made my way home. Driving past the 'Uneeda a Biscuit' sign on 25th Street, I thought, "I certainly do!" Or some wine. I planned to bring that kitten to the SPCA the next day, but nearly 10 years later that cat, Frank, still lives with me. One year later, in 2013, Mildred the dog came home from the SPCA with me, to join the family. She was an unclaimed stray. How no one went looking for her I will never understand. That sweet old girl relished every opportunity to relax in the grass, and I loved having her there as I tended my patches of purple flowers (my favorite color).
