about this story
Moving to a new middle school can be tough. I learned that we would be moving to a new house during my 6th grade year. The idea of leaving my friends behind and having to rebuild social circles made me anxious. At my new school I did not feel like I belonged, and I started getting in "stick-y" trouble. There was a special teacher (later mentor) that saw the potential in me and took me under her wing. She gave me hope by modeling the power that your voice can have when showing up in certain spaces. It is this teacher that blossomed my desire to further explore opportunities in education that were ahead of me (I already knew that I wanted to be a teacher), and to this day I am continuing to seek excellence ahead with Ms. Mason in my heart forever! (Rest her beautiful soul ❤️)
