about this story

It was a bright sunny day, today, which was ironic for a funeral ceremony. As Saif and his other friends threw flowers into the burial pit, countless emotions were experienced and shown in front of the bronze box. “Thomas Muriel” is engraved on the coffin, which is now buried under the limitless supply of tributes and gifts from his many co-workers, friends, and family members. Throughout the morning, one can speculate the fate of their unfortunate friend. When the funeral ended, all of the attendees left the church mumbling to each other and continuing their separate ways. Saif decided to drive back to the university where his lost friend once stayed at. Outside on the lawn stood the head of a large, unfinished sculpture that his deceased friend worked on. It just doesn’t add up. On the day of his friend’s death, Saif was accompanying his friend as they were finding some “exotic and special” art supplies and materials. At the time, his friend was pale and coated in sweat. When the two turned into a corner, the worried Muriel jumped into a dash, surprising Saif with his evasive maneuvers regardless of obstacles. When he lost his artistic companion, he tried to chase after his friend through a crowded market packed inside narrow alleyways. The only time Muriel’s cries were heard was through a red door. It was stuck shut for a few seconds, but a pry with a nearby wooden pole was enough to unlock the barrier. That exclaim was the last thing that came out of Muriel’s mouth.
