Behind an old vent in an old, crusty school, lives a tree snake with no trees. Rumored to be there by little children, no one guesses to confirm its existence. But none of them realize that the snake will be there long after them, staring unblinkingly, acutely aware of the slow urbanization of the country town, the clicking of the crickets, and the inward creeping of the sea.
