about this story

As I looked over the podium to prepare to give my side of the story to the jury. All I could think about was the little girl who grew up in Harlem, with little hope and dreams. Thinking that life wasn't as sweet as everyone made it seem. One day as she was walking home from school she walked past a group of boys. They called out for her, and her footsteps became quicker as her nerves got the best of her. The boys chased her into a random building on the block. They forced themselves onto her and grabbed her belongings to see what she had on her. The girl screamed and begged them to let her go she promised not to tell anyone, as all this happened she remembered hearing one of the boys quoting a phrase her mother used to say to her. " You're not so fierce are you now tiger" No one knew that her mother called her tiger instead of close family. During her last few moments, she could only think about her family, her dream of leaving Harlem, and her little hope of making her mother proud. "Her name was Roselyn Harper, she had bigger dreams than anyone in this courtroom," said her mother standing at the podium. As I looked at the defendants I noticed a familiar face, one of whom I raised like my son. The rage overfilled my mind but I couldn't let my anger out on him, he was only a child. Roselyn's mother cried and couldn't finish her testimony, the last thing she said to the jury was "My daughter was as delicate as a flower, she meant no harm. She was a rose in Harlem just trying to bloom into something better than this."
