about this story

The sound of the birds singing woke her with a start. She sprung upright, disoriented. The morning song of the birds had never made her react this way before, but this morning was different. On one side of her lay the beach and on the other a city. Unthinking she was drawn into the city. Passing through the shadow of the buildings she took refuge in a phone booth. Picking up the receiver she stared through the windows into the bookstore at the title "Women's History". She wondered and she waited for a number to come.
