about this story

I think back to when I was a young girl and remember the days when my sister and I walked everywhere to explore. The best place was the old abandoned house across the field. It was kind of creepy walking down the huge wooden staircase. The sounds as you step down each step were haunting so we would try to spook each other. Once in the house the entrance was blanketed by spider webs so we had to take turns being the first to break through. It smelled like my grandma's attic. Part of it made you feel nauseated and part smelled kind of sweet like bread. We would spend hours playing hide and seek always finding new nooks and crannies to hide in. Once we realized that we should have been home minutes earlier, we would race each other to the top of the giant stairway, across the field, home. It was even better exploring in the winter. The birds loved to take up house in the broken ceiling boards and shelter of that old house. On the way back home, we would try to retrace the footsteps we had made in the snow on the way there. These are memories that will never be erased!
