Five Card Story: The Failing of Mass Church

In a small run down town, there was a wonderful church that was rumored to be full with gold. All the townspeople wanted to get into the church but it was guarded by a ferocious fence that burned you whenever you got to near, so no one could get into the church to see if the rumors were true, to see if there really was gold.
One day though, a man designed a way to get into the church. He wanted to go under through the tunnel systems and he showed all his fellow people on his computer just how to do it.
They wanted to go as well.
When he tried though he found that the bars of the fence extended all the way under the church and when he got to close he was struck further beneath the ground, and no one ever saw him again.
