I was obsessed. I had been around the world twice and my thoughts still followed me everywhere I went. The persistence of heartbreak and his face were present no matter what the environment was. Tropical; snowed-in; festive; they were all twisted with flavours of bittersweet hatred and anger. I felt justified in loathing in self-pity, and I carried that as luggage throughout every country I had traveled to. It wasn't until I settled back at home and into the mundane life of university that I realized what I had missed. I had forfeited opportunities to love others and truly know others because I was so self-focused. My negativity towards him created a monster inside myself. And even though he could dump me, I couldn't dump myself. I had to find a way to recreate my incessant need for revenge; and that way was called "step two". I must remember God's love for him, myself, and others and breathe it into my own body. Once this love is within me, I am free to realize how much greater it is than entitlement, and am free to give it to others. Letting go, and letting God.
