I woke up on the top of a mountain, no memory of how I got here. Terrified, I slowly stood up to look around. The side of the mountain was steep and rocky. There was no way down. It was also the most important day of my life. At that moment there was a meeting of the greatest authors and historians discussing my book release. For the past two years I had received many threats on my life because of the information I was going to tell the world. I protected my sources and surrounded myself with top security. I thought once the book was released, I would be free of the criminals seeking to destroy me. Apparently I was wrong.
I screamed for help for what seemed like hours. I knew there was no one around. I knew I was all alone. I lied down in a bed of flowers. The only comforting thought was knowing that I had finished my book. It would be read around the world, and people would finally hear about all the atrocities. Maybe some of the men would be pursued and charged with their crimes, maybe nothing would happen. The one thing I knew was that my voice had been heard.
I let this one uplifting thought wash over me as I closed my eyes and listened to the sounds of nature. It sounded like a storm was rolling in. I opened my eyes to see the clouds, but quickly realized I had not heard thunder. It was an avalanche. I didn't even try to escape. I let the snow crash down and bury me. It was the only way off the mountain.
