Five Card Story: The Town

about this story
A small town is surrounded by a really large forest. However, the forest does not look so nice. A lot of trees are cut down these years because the town sells millions of trees to make money. Nobody in the town ever cares about their environment and everyone even now wants to get more money from the poor forest as soon as possible. A river in the small town used to be very clear and children always swim there. But now it is black, filling with chemical waste, and does not flow anymore. Innocent fishes even can not live in the water. Some fishes are hanging on the street, which look really disgusting. There used to be some squirrels living in the town. Now they do not exist there anymore. Greedy people walk on the street fast and they have to wear masks to protect themselves from dirty air. From the roof of the house, we can only see a few withered trees and the gray sky. What makes me worry about is that people there even do not realize the importance and necessity to protect the environment. This is a so-called fast developing town in China.
