I ran through the yard, my feet shuffling through the freshly cut grass, so neat, it looked like it had been cut with a pair of nail clippers. My dog, Triton, was running with me, breathing in the fresh air. He knocked me over and I rolled into the dirt, laughing, everything seemed so relaxing and fun, until I was interrupted by my father.
''Nick!'' he yelled as my head shot up. ''Get inside right now! You're getting all dirty and it is study time.''
I sighed as I got up from the ground, he didn't understand that there was more to life than just good grades. I liked being outside, in the sun, playing sports or just running around. My father, of course didn't approve. He was a big-time business man. He didn't let me hang out with anyone that wasn't a straight A student.
I had one friend who was the best, her name was Lily, but she was about 12 years older than me, and almost 24. She was crazy, but what to mattered to her most, was enjoying life and not caring what other people thought. She worked at the fair, in the plant section. She would dress up as the coolest plants to promote, it was a bit out there, but she was happy. While I was thinking this, my father snapped me out of my thoughts.
''Nick! Nick! Come on, do you think daydreaming is going to get you far in life?'' my father asked sarcastically.
I shook my head slightly, still looking at the wall.
''That's what i thought, now your math books are on your desk. Go on.''
I had been studying for about 30 minutes when I looked up at the clock and saw that it was 10:20am. The fair had started at 10, so I decided to get out of here and go help Lily with the plants. I sneaked out of my room from my balcony, using a rope I made if I ever wanted to leave without getting in trouble. I hopped on my bike, whistling for Triton to follow me. It was about a 5 minute ride to the fair, 7 minutes tops. Triton was trained, so he didn't need a leash, normally I would just walk around, get a cotton candy. They were amazing since I wasn't allowed to have sugar.
Once I got there I parked my bike and went to find Lily. I was looking around when Triton started barking in another direction. I looked over to see Lily waving at us, with a brand new costume, this one was really cool. It was a dark green long sleeve shirt with bright green sequins on the front. She also had green eye shadow, with a neon green braided wig. On her hand she had a Venus Fly trap puppet. Those were my favorite plants.
I started walking over to her. She greeted Triton by letting him sniff her hand and rubbing behind his ear. She loved Triton.
''Hey, Kiddo. Wanna check out our plants?"
''Of course I do!'' I said excited.
I turned around looking at the plants, and then I turned around and observed the fair. The diversity of people, different booths. Little kids laughing and jumping in the bouncy house. Just being outside with fresh air and the sun made me so happy. All I wanted was to stay here, living my life and being happy.
