a little girl (!!!) had to stay at home because she had to look after her sick baby brother while her mother ran to find a doctor. She was only little and it was a big job but someone had to do it. while she was out in the garden feeding the chickens, she noticed something small, black and fluffy on the ground. was it a kitten's tail? and if it was, where was the kitten?
was it a hair tie? and if it was, where was the little girl with long hair who had dropped it? or was it a tiny black caterpillar? it was!! she stroked it and wrapped it around her finger and was glad to have found a friend because it was getting dark and her mother still hadn't come home. in fact , the sun started to go down and she wondered what she should make for dinner for her and her brother. he was asleep while she looked in the cupboard but there was no food there, she looked in the fridge, but they didn't have a fridge so there was no food there. she looked in the pantry and instead of food she found a picture of a man in an oldfashioned frockcoat. she thought to herself that he looked like beethoven or bach, but he was carrying a ghettoblaster on his shoulder! that was strange and even more strange was the fact that the black caterpillar had turned into a fur coat and was draped around her shoulders keeping her snug and warm, and beethoven's ghetto blaster was playing loud happy jigs. next thing she knew she was dancing through the kitchen and singing songs with her brother and with the cat and the dog. she wrapped her brother in the fur coat and they eventually fell asleep. And when the sun came up the next morning, there was snow on the mountain and it was a beautiful day and she ran outside to feed the chickens and there was her mother standing in the garden, smiling and holding out her arms and in her fingers she held a little green plant. 'this is the plant that will make your little brother well again'. they planted it by the back door and within minutes it had grown dozens of fresh green leaves. her mother made soup with them and they all ate the lovely hot broth and that is the end of the story.
